Property taxes have become the topic of a lot of conversation throughout Greater Atlanta!
Be sure to check in with your property tax office, and monitor your property tax valuations and billings. Many parts of Atlanta have seen strong property value appreciation, and property taxes are reflecting those value adjustments. Local news outlets are reporting stories of homeowners who have been taken by unpleasant surprises as a result since some of the adjustments (not all) are coming in as increases at or above 50%.
For homeowners who escrow their taxes, this may mean having to “make up payments” in coming billing cycles to cover any deficits.
For homeowners who pay their taxes directly, this may mean a budgeting shortfall which may not be recognized until the tax billings come due.
If you have any questions or concerns, you will want to address those with your property tax office. If you believe your property taxes have been billed at too high a rate, you’ll want to understand the appeals process including any deadlines.
